  1. I just bought this game but I was disappointed that there is a lag in the controls no matter what you are pressing. Graphics look great of course, that wears off when you realize there is a delay for everything you do. I wish this retro compilation could have got it right. Still fun somehow… it would have been perfect if it had P.O.W., maybe the next volume will have it. Rating: 3 / 5

  2. Well considering if you tried to buy all 16 games here in 1995 you would have to spend over $[...]! That makes this compliation golden for any fan of SNK or Neo Geo owners. Finally Magician Lord, Samurai Showdown, and King of Monsters are at your finger tips.

But unfortunetly, this compliation is far from perfect.

    - The first thing I noticed is the sound quality. Neo Geo games had great sound especially noticible in the Arcades, but the sounds on this compliation are low and muffled sounding especially with Samurai Showdown.

    - The second thing are the graphics, now maybe its been too long and I just forgot, but I seem to recall Neo Geo games having some fairly sharp looking graphics. But the graphics for the PS2 version look terrible with jaggies galour. I swear they were sharper on the Neo Geo. Luckly the PSP version of this compliation looks much better and lot closer to what I remember. I want to mention that I’m using my PS3 (fw 2.30) to play the PS2 version. I tried with and without scaling, but it made no difference.

Most game also have alot of slowdown which is odd, because the Neo Geo didn’t. Is the Neo Geo more powerful than the PS2?

-The third thing is the bonus content. The bonus content are things that the game should have given you in the begining, such as character moves. Thats a wierd choice for bonus content since its pretty standard stuff elsewhere.

Now aside all that the reason why I gave this game 3 stars is mainly because, one of my favorite games that I was really looking forward to playing agian is not availible right out of the box! I’m talking about World Heroes! Some idiot at SNK though it would be cool or funny to make this game part of the unlockable bonus conent! That is just stupid! In order to unlock World Heroes, you have to earn 10 achievments found through out various other games. Arg! They should not be advertising this game with World Heroes the way that they are.

    – Bottom line is that you should definely get this game just becuase it is sort of a holy grail for 1990s gamer. Nearly $[...] worth of content on one disc for $[...]! And most of these games are classics! Metal Slug and King of Monsters are worth the purchase alone.

But just be warned that this compliation is flawed! Rating: 3 / 5

  3. I would love to see further volumes of the SNK(Neo Geo) collection. Hopefully they will iron out some of the bugs for the second collection. As for this first collection it is a nice assortment of games that look just like the original classics. The only problem is a slowdown with some of them. I’m not sure why it happens, these are not big process hungry games. The collection itself is on the small side when compared to some of the other collections out there. The price is good and if they price a second volume the same I will probably jump at that as well. Rating: 3 / 5

  4. SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1 is a collection of sixteen SNK arcade games for the Playstation 2. The games that are included in this collection are: Art of Fighting, Baseball Stars 2, Burnning Fight, Fatal Fury, King of the Monsters, Last Resort, Magigian Lord, Metal Slug, Neo Turf Masters, Samurai Showdown, Sengoku, Shock Troopers, The Next Glory, The King of Fighters ‘94, Top Hunter, and World Heroes. While they didn’t have a great ammount of sucsess in the home console market, but in the arcade Neo-Geo/SNK was one of the kings. Thankfuly, this collection contains a majority of classics and only a couple of filler games. However, even the filler games are pretty decent games. Each of the games seems to have retained the arcade look and feel. While they may not be a big name of the video game industry scene these days, this wonderful collection helps remind us that for a time few companies could match Neo-Geo/SNK in the arcade. Rating: 4 / 5

  5. I remember the Neo-Geo arcade games very fondly, and I was sad to see them go over the years. However, over the past few years alot of developers have been releasing arcade game/vintage game collections which I’m happy to see:)The SNK Arcade Classics collection features some of the best titles made by SNK such as Metal Slug,Burning Fight,Samurai Showdown,King of Monsters, and a whole slew of others.

A must get for fans of the older days of gaming! Rating: 5 / 5
